Christmas in New York City

Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you had an amazing weekend : ) Today I will be sharing some festive things to do in New York City. I previously did a Thanksgiving in New York post, so check it out!

Window displays on Fifth Avenue are always beautiful. Stores like Saks, Henri Bendel, Tiffany’s and Bergdorf Goodman have super festive window displays and they seriously go all out. Saks even has light shows at night : )

The famous Rockefeller tree is right across the street from Saks, and the gigantic Christmas tree is definitely worth fighting through the crowd for. There are professional photographers there to take pictures for you, but obviously you have to pay them to get the photos, so I suggest just using your phone or camera to snap some pictures. It looks much better in person anyways. There is also an iceskating rink that is usually pretty packed, but iceskating under the Rockefeller tree is a must if you have the patience and time : )

On the other side of Rockefeller (Six Avenue), there are gigantic Christmas lights and humongous ornaments. Both are great places to take some cute and festive pictures!

There are also many pop-up Christmas bars in the city. They open after Black Friday and close on Christmas Eve, and offer many festive drinks with punny names. I did a blog post about Christmas Bars in NYC here.

Holiday markets are also a huge part of Christmas in the city. The two most famous ones are Union Square Holiday Market and Bryant Park Winter Village. They consist of many booths that sell artisan goods, festive crafts, food, and there is always a hot cider booth. There is also a rink at Bryant Park and sometimes groups carol at these holiday markets.

It is also a must to stop by the year-round Christmas store called Christmas & City on Fifth Avenue. There are ornaments for literally EVERYTHING there!

Macy’s Santaland is a festive little town on the 8th floor of Macy’s Herald Square between 6th and 7th Avenue. The line can get REALLY long, so try to go either really early in the day when they first open or reserve a spot via Santaland Express. You can reserve a spot 30 minutes to 48 hours in advance and it will shorten the wait time from 2 hours to 15-20 minutes. The only downside is that you don’t get the full experience of Santaland, because you go through a different route. There are elves who take professional pictures for you, but you have to pay at least 20 bucks for them once you get out. Good thing the elves are nice and will gladly take pictures for you on your own device.

Washington Square Park has a beautiful tree under the arch and is a great place for photos during the day and at night.
